The American Music Awards are a chance for the singers, performers and fans to fly their freak flags high. The 2012 AMAs on Sunday night were a bit — dare we say it — subdued for our liking. But not to worry: Christina Aguilera still managed to get our attention with a ’50s-style hairdo, and Nicki Minaj had us scratching our heads with a dress that — we are almost positive — made its debut on the red carpet a few short months ago at the Emmys on “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen.
